REGISTERED NURSE / LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (RN/LVN)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (RN/LVN) provides nursing support to patients receiving inpatient substance use treatment at Hope Ranch. The Nurse manages ongoing medical care, medication administration, health monitoring, and patient education for individuals who are medically stable and appropriate for inpatient treatment.

The Nurse works collaboratively with counselors, therapists, direct care staff, medical providers, and other members of the treatment team to promote patient safety, treatment compliance, and continuity of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide nursing services within the scope of practice of an RN or LVN and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Hope Ranch policies.
  • Administer and document medications as ordered by authorized medical providers.
  • Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in health status.
  • Maintain accurate medication administration records (MARs) and other required nursing documentation.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation upon admission, discharge, and changes in prescribed medications.
  • Coordinate prescription refills, pharmacy services, and medication-related needs as appropriate.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, health conditions, wellness, and treatment compliance.
  • Monitor and document vital signs and other health information as clinically appropriate.
  • Identify changes in a patientโ€™s medical condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate medical provider or treatment team member.
  • Coordinate outside medical appointments, referrals, and follow-up care when necessary.
  • Assist with maintaining medication storage, medication counts, and inventory in accordance with applicable requirements and facility procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to medical concerns and emergencies and initiate emergency medical services when indicated.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team communication and care coordination.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, training, and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the position and applicable scope of practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Licensure: Current and unrestricted Texas license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

Experience: Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, inpatient care, mental health, or a related healthcare setting is preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification or ability to obtain certification as required.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background and pre-employment screening.
  • Knowledge of medication administration and medication safety practices.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, pharmacies, and healthcare providers.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong nursing assessment and observation skills appropriate to scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of medication administration, documentation, and patient education.
  • Understanding of substance use disorders and recovery-oriented care.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Compassionate and professional approach to individuals receiving substance use treatment.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires regular interaction with patients throughout an inpatient treatment facility and may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting, and responding promptly to patient needs or medical concerns.
